NIVA Constitution
The following is the NIVA Constitution (as amended 1999):
1. NAME
The Association is called the Northern Ireland Volleyball Association, hereinafter referred to as “N.I.V.A” or as “the Association”.
2. OBJECTIVES
2.1. To act as the governing body for the sport of volleyball in Northern Ireland by:
2.1.1. assisting in the teaching of volleyball;
2.1.2. organising and regulating amateur championships and competitions;
2.1.3. organising education and award schemes for coaches and officials;
2.1.4. liasing with the appropriate organisations concerned with volleyball, and sport in general;
2.1.5. stimulating public interest and undertaking such other things as are considered conducive to furthering the development of volleyball.
3. RULES
3.1. By virtue of its legal powers, the rules, regulations, constitution and decisions of the International Volleyball Federation (F.I.V.B) are considered part of this constitution and are to be compulsorily respected by all members of N.I.V.A and by third parties involved in volleyball matters, except where otherwise authorised by F.I.V.B.
4. FINANCE
4.1. The Business Commission will set annual affiliation fees at the start of each season.
4.2. Audited annual accounts will be made available to the members.
4.3. Payment of reasonable out-of-pocket expenses of officers, delegates and appointees of N.I.V.A will be at the discretion of the Business Commission.
5. MEMBERSHIP AND ELIGIBILITY.
5.1. The Association will be composed of clubs, organisations, individuals and by Life Members and Honorary Life Members.
5.2. Ordinary Membership will consist of Clubs, Schools, Organisations and Individuals.
5.3. Any individual, school, organisation or club accepting the foregoing is eligible to become a member of the Association.
5.4. Life membership may be agreed on application to the Business Commission and the payment of a fee determined by that Commission.
5.5. Honorary Life membership may be awarded on application to the Business Commission and with the approval by an Annual General Meeting (A.G.M.) with a simple majority.
5.6. There will be no human discrimination in the affairs of N.I.V.A. or of any of its members.
5.7. Members whose conduct renders them ineligible will be suspended or expelled. Power of suspension will rest with the Business Commission and expulsion will rest with the A.G.M. on favouring such a recommendation by the Business Commission.
